SAINT-SAËNS Piano Concerto No.2
BEETHOVEN Symphony No.3 Eroica

Antoni Wit conductor
Ingrid Fliter piano

The most heroic of composers, Beethoven, penned his Third Symphony with Napoleon in mind. It became a celebration of the ‘Heroic’ nature of all humanity. ‘Eroica’ inspires and thrills, and Polish conductor Antoni Wit is one of its greatest interpreters. Saint-Saëns’ Second Piano Concerto begins in homage to his hero Bach, but the mood nimbly changes to Parisian jollity for Argentinean pianist Ingrid Fliter. The concert begins with an anti-hero: the noble count who dares to go hunting on Sunday when he should be in church. Heaven’s punishment – he himself will be hunted by terrifying demons for all eternity!

According to a spokesperson, users can sample before they purchase, with movie and TV trailers available free of charge. Happy Feet 2 and Sherlock Holmes: Games of Shadows, were among the thousands of movies available for rent or purchase.

“Customers . . . can also begin watching media as soon as they start to download a file. They won’t have to wait for the entire file to transfer before they can begin enjoying great entertainment,” said spokesperson Nick Manning in an e-mailed statement.

Klako Group Webinar in September 2012 / ChinaInvest.biz Magazine

For many international companies, being multinational cooperation’s or small to medium sized enterprises, China as a sales market gives a great potential. The more specialist or precision production is moved from international markets to China, the more production plants are built, and, companies who would typically supply high end production companies in their home countries are forced to move with them to China. There are various sales structures available to companies entering the China market. The individual options vary in terms of investment, risk, commitment, control and time frames. For the sale into China there are two general options:
1. Selling into China without any local representation or
2. By establishing a presence in China and selling / marketing through the partners / entities.

Intellectual Property Rights in China

ChinaInvest.biz is the editorial division of Klako Group and will be providing insight into investment, tax and operational issues for foreign companies entering and expanding throughout China.
Although counterfeiting is illegal, the Chinese government is in a predicament because to put it simply, fakes have been and continue to be good for the economy. The profits earned from counterfeiting and violations of intellectual property rights are critical to local economies. Counterfeiting absorbs large numbers of workers, generates substantial revenues and provides tax revenues. For years, Chinese authorities turned a blind eye to counterfeiting on the grounds that it helped spread developing technology and essentially it is a “victimless” crime. The Chinese have a tendency to borrow, not steal, and copying technologies is not seen as ethically wrong.
There is no single or simple solution to protecting intellectual property in China. The ideal checklist includes obtaining comprehensive local protection in the form of patents, copyrights or trademarks for the products, lobbying with the growing number of protection agencies, and developing sensible business strategies that IP risk into account. Foreign companies who decide to establish their entity in China should take all precautions to avoid possible IPR Infringements. If the companies register all their patents and trademarks, it does not necessarily mean they are safe but it is a step forward to being protected. Should you require further information, please contact our Directors at our Group Headquarters and/or China Headquarters.

Take a “Brake” Low Carbon Action – Corporate Green Driving Award Scheme

Reduce Vehicular Emissions and Save Fuel for Company Vehicles by participating in Take a “Brake” Low Carbon Action- Corporate Green Driving Award Scheme 2012 (register before August 31st)

The Take a “Brake” Low Carbon Action – Corporate Green Driving Award Scheme 2012 is a programme to help companies to reduce vehicular emissions and save fuel for their company vehicles.  Hong Kong’s roadside air quality is really poor but every company and individual can take actions to improve it for a better living environment.

Below is a summary of the Scheme:

Participants in last year’s scheme had amazing success. Together they achieved an average of:
• 5.7% improvement in fuel efficiency and
• 10.7% reduction in fuel consumption

In terms of accumulated savings since the schemes inception in 2010, the participating organisations have:
• reduced their consumption of fuel by 67,700 litres per month,
• saved approximately HK$1,000,000 per month and
• achieved a monthly reduction of approximately 180 tonnes of CO2.

Imagine saving 31% of your monthly fuel expenses, that is what the top organisation achieved last year!

An invitation document containing further details of the scheme and outlining the success that last year’s participants enjoyed is available to download from http://www.foe.org.hk/takeabrake/Invitation_to_participate_in_Take_a_Brake_2012_-_Corporate_Scheme.pdf .

We also have on our website (www.foe.org.hk/takeabrake) a Frequently Asked Questions page.

Registration for the scheme commenced at the start of July and closes on 31 August.

We look forward to hearing your favourable reply and if you require any further information then please contact Merrin Pearse (merrin@foe.org.hk or 3184 1505)
