People, Mining: SouthGobi Resources announces promotion of Curt Church to Chief Operating Officer

Alexander Molyneux, President and CEO of Chamber member SouthGobi Resources Ltd. (TSX: SGQ, HK: 1878) is pleased to announce Curt Church, previously Vice President, Mining Operations has been appointed the company’s new Chief Operating Officer, effective immediately. Mr. Church will continue to be based in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and will be responsible for managing the company’s coal mining and exploration operations.

Mr. Church has been the Vice President, Mining Operations since October, 2010 and was previously General Manager of the Ovoot Tolgoi Coal Mine in southern Mongolia for more than two years. Mr. Church has more than 16 years experience in the mineral resources industry, including more than six years of experience working at various mining operations in Mongolia.

“Curt has developed exceptional leadership skills within our organization,” said Mr. Molyneux. “The new role of Chief Operating Officer is recognition of his leadership and ability to think strategically about the business we are building into a leading coal miner.”

Insurance: Manulife Vietnam Opens New Sales Office in Hanoi

Manulife Vietnam, a subsidiary of Canada-based Manulife Financial, announced that it has opened a second sales office in Hanoi, Vietnam. The opening of the office is in response to the significant increase in Manulife Vietnam’s policyholders in the north of the country.

Manulife Financial is a financial services group that provides asset management services to institutional customers worldwide as well as reinsurance solutions, specializing in life and property and casualty retrocession.

People: Sun Life Trustee (part of Sun Life Financial) has a new CEO

Sun Life Trustee Company Limited (“SL Trustee”) today announced the appointment of Billy Wong as Director and Chief Executive Officer. As the new CEO, Wong succeeds Nigel Hazell, who will remain as Non-Executive Chairman and Director of Sun Life Trustee.

In his new role, Wong has overall management responsibility for SL Trustee with respect to MPF and ORSO Schemes, and will strategically lead and achieve business growth in line with business objectives while maintaining strong corporate governance values and adherence to regulatory requirements.

 

Wong joined BestServe Financial Limited (“BestServe”) as Vice-President, Institutional Business Development in November 2008. BestServe provides pension administration services to more than 630,000 members. Prior to joining BestServe, Wong was at Watson Wyatt as Principal Consulting Actuary in Retirement Benefits Practice with extensive retirement schemes consulting experience involving key Hong Kong institutional employers.

Wong graduated from the University of Hong Kong in Actuarial Science. He is a Fellow of Society of Actuaries and a Chartered Financial Analyst.
