Flight Centre Hong Kong is set to become the first travel company to sponsor the Country of Origin Rugby 10s Tournament, which will be hosted later this month by the Hong Kong Cricket Club (HKCC) Rugby and the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union.
Flight Centre is partnering with HKCC to throw its support behind the increasingly popular event, which will be held for the 16th successive year on 19 March.
Executive General Manager of Flight Centre Greater China, David Fraser, said the company was thrilled to be a sponsor and encourage the support of both the local and expatriate rugby communities in Hong Kong.
“With its Australian origins, Flight Centre has a strong passion for rugby and we saw this as the perfect opportunity to help further grow youth and club rugby in a city that has always been supportive of our business,” Mr Fraser said.
The tournament will be held in Kings Park on Saturday 19 March from 12.30pm, with the finals to take place from 4pm that afternoon. It will include the Men’s Open Competition, comprising 10 teams with defending champions Tui New Zealand, Securitas China, Leathwaite England, G4S Hong Kong, Island Junks Scotland, St David’s Society Wales, Australia, France, Ireland and Japan.
For the first time, the tournament will be expanded to include U14 players, with six teams from China, England, Hong Kong, Australia & South Africa, Scotland & New Zealand, and Wales & France. It will also feature a Women’s Exhibition Game.
“Flight Centre wants to play its part in helping to build the Hong Kong rugby community, and we’re encouraging anyone with a love of the sport – young or old – to join us at the tournament for some top-class action, good seating, and plenty of food and beverages.”
Flight Centre is also an authorised sub agent of Ticketek | John Eales 5, Official Hospitality Agent for Rugby World Cup 2011. Flight Centre is the only travel company in Greater China to offer the sale of Rugby World Cup 2011 Hospitality Packages.
“This will be the main way in which people can buy seats at the Rugby World Cup, so we’re encouraging fans to secure their tickets early,” Mr Fraser said.
