Initiatives Prince George Development Corporation (IPG) is the economic development authority for the City of Prince George, British Columbia. IPG delivers targeted trade and investment services and acts as the catalyst that enhances Prince George as a sustainable, knowledge-based, resource economy, connected to the world.

IPG plays a leadership role in partnership with an array of organizations to advance a sustainable knowledge based economy in Prince George, building on the resounding success of the University of Northern British Columbia and the College of New Caledonia. IPG also continues to lead the reinstatement of innovation and entrepreneurship programs in Prince George, and will oversee the transition of the Northern Bioenergy Partnership into an industry-led, independent society to catalyze a world-class bio-energy cluster in Northern British Columbia.

Prince George is a sustainable resource-based economy; IPG is a strong advocate of resource-based development and is pursuing an Industrial Lands Strategy to develop 200-500 hectares of intermediate to heavy industrial land outside the city′s sensitive air shed. IPG is also facilitating growth of revenues for more than 100 service and supply businesses selling into mining, forestry, oil and gas, and energy sectors, while supporting the retention of businesses that are core to the economic well-being of Prince George.

Prince George is sustainably connected to the world through a variety of transportation infrastructure partners including the Port of Prince Rupert, the Prince George Airport, and the CN Intermodal Facility. Being sustainably connected to the world also entails IPG working with partners to advance Cariboo Connector four-laning (Hwy. 97 Prince George to Cache Creek); completion of safety and technical improvements to the Pine Pass (Hwy. 97 Prince George to Dawson Creek); and twinning of the Yellowhead Highway (Hwy. 16 Hinton Alberta, to Prince Rupert, BC). The Prince George Global Logistics Park will be market-ready with the completion of the Boundary Road Connector project in September 2011, and aggressive marketing efforts will be ongoing.

Prince George′s downtown development is also actively growing. IPG will be executing a marketing plan for development in the City′s core and will continue to advocate for a Wood Innovation and Design Centre and a Performing Arts Centre.

Prince George is also a very cost competitive location, in 2010, KPMG ranked Prince George as number one out of the 13 cities profiled in Pacific US/Canada in its Competitive Alternatives study.
